On October 20th, 2017, Las Vegas suffered one of the worst shooting of 2017. During the Route 91 Harvest Festival many were celebrating country music when they were surprised by gun shots. Stephen Paddock was behind the gun shots, shooting from the 32nd floor, in the Mandalay Bay Hotel.

Many of those who attended the festival and worked within the premises, are witnesses to what occurred. Alex, a 35-year-old Mexican immigrant, was by the VIP tent when the first shots were heard. Alex ran and sought shelter in the Mandalay Bay Hotel. Alex witnessing and trauma from the event may make him eligible to apply for a U-nonimmigrant visa.

What is a U-Visa and how does it work?

U-nonimmigrant visas (U-Visa) provides protection from deportation when victims of crime, cooperate with law enforcement for the investigation.

  1. Firstly, the victimmust be interviewed by police and undergo psychiatric evaluation.”
  2. Secondly, an approval or certification from a federal prosecutor is needed to apply
  3. Lastly, the application is put together, mailed and await the USCIS to issue a decision
